Massage Therapy

Definition

The manipulation of the muscles and other soft tissues of the body (as by stroking, kneading, or rubbing with one or both hands or an instrument) by a massage therapist for therapeutic purposes (as to relieve pain, promote healing, or improve physical functioning).

—Merriam-Webster. (n.d.). Massage therapy (2022)

Massage Therapy Focuses On:

  • Reducing muscle pain, soreness, and tension
  • Improving overall circulation and blood flow
  • Strengthening the immune system

Why Get Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is considered a part of integrative medicine; this refers to treatment that involves both Western and non-Western components of medicine. Combined with chiropractic care, regenerative therapy, or other physiotherapies, adding massage therapy to the treatment of several conditions can help to improve blood and lymph flow to the affected areas.

In addition to treating the focus area, full body massages can benefit the body’s overall circulatory system. This has been shown to reduce blood pressure and heart rate and improve overall energy and alertness. Massage also helps to distribute lymphatic fluid, a crucial component of the immune system, around the body.

The Albino Chiropractic Center in Waterbury, Connecticut offers an in-house licensed massage therapist (LMC) available to both patients who receive other treatments as well as those who are only seeking massage therapy. The benefit to having all services under the same roof is that patients are often able to schedule their massage adjacent to their other treatment session(s) and do not have to drive to a separate location.
