Chiropractic Care

Definition

A health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal adjustment and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation.

—World Federation of Chiropractic, 2001

Chiropractic Care Focuses On:

  • Relief of acute and chronic neck and/or back pain
  • Correction of subluxations (or partial dislocations) of the musculoskeletal system
  • Treatment of soft tissue injuries, herniated discs, sports injuries, and injuries sustained in auto accidents (such as whiplash)

Why Get Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care seeks to correct many acute and chronic issues with the musculoskeletal system – namely those that won’t go away on their own. In contrast to many other treatments, however, the process is completely non-surgical and non-invasive, only using a series of maneuvers to correct the problem.

Whether you’ve been injured in an auto accident, sustained a sports injury, or perform repetitive or sedentary tasks at work, these manipulations can correct the underlying “subluxations”, or partial dislocations, in your neck or spine, helping your body along its natural healing process.

How to Prepare

Identify any areas which are often tender or sore, the time of day when you feel the most uncomfortable, and any activities or motions which trigger the pain. These will all help Dr. Albino pinpoint the source of your pain and perform the proper manipulations, as well as offer guidance on how to prevent the pain moving forward.

After Your Appointment

After your initial evaluation and treatment, you may feel a significant improvement in your symptoms as your body begins to relax and circulation is restored to the affected areas. However, the healing process often extends beyond leaving the office, and there are important steps to take after leaving the office to ensure your body doesn’t revert to its pre-treatment state. These can include:

  • Drinking a full glass of water following treatment
  • Gently mobilizing or stretching the adjusted area
  • Getting plenty of sleep the night after your visit

Dr. Albino will instruct you on any to-do’s or at-home exercises for your specific condition; the most important step is to follow this healing plan to prevent prolonged pain or reinjury of the body.
